personal essays

1. One idea the writer gave me in the Wide Range of Topics section is, that you must right something that is able to relate to the reader and not just a very personal experience. You want to write about an opinion that can be seen on both sides, or that isn't just relatable to you. This gave me the idea of writing about something school related, such as homework or finals, anything that most kids my age have similar opinions on.

2. The Opinion Pieces section gave me the idea that you need to show the reader rather than just tell them. You want to include the reader and make your experiences specific so they feel involved in the story. If you are vague with your words, then the reader will feel like just an observer and won't be able to connect with your experiences or emotions.

3. Personal Essays and Crafts: 3 Suggestions-

- make connections (give personal examples and specific experiences to keep your reader interested)

- make sure your hook is very strong, this is what will first catch your reader's attention. try using a
quote, question, strong statement, metaphor, or a description of a person or setting.

- think of your essay as a camera lens. start by describing a detail (personal experience) then open the lens and take it back to a wide view of the subject. (the general idea) then close the piece by going back to fine detail.
