Photo Manipulation & Ethics

What are some of the main points you read about in the website above regarding manipulating images?
Some of the main points I read about were that so many of the photos that we see now days are being altered and changed. Our society has accepted 'photoshopping' as a society norm and has caused lots of controversy on what should be acceptable and what should not be.

What is the philosophy of newspapers like the Washington Post and the New York Times regarding image manipulation?
The Washington Post and the New York Times hold their photographers to very strict guidelines on how hey shoot and edit they pictures.  Their philosophy is to preserve the picture as much as possible. Even just a slight color change can alter the whole perspective of the picture.

What do you think are acceptable things you could do to an image and not cross the line unto an unethical manipulation?
I think that it all depends on the type of situation you are in. I think that changing things that are affected by the lighting or scenery of the picture like red eyes or a greasy forehead are acceptable to change. I think that the picture should be kept the same to display more of a realistic affect, rather than a plastic one.
I think that this is a display of unethical photo manipulation. I definitely find this very disrespectful towards people of color and people of different ethnic backgrounds. The picture is very obviously photoshopped; it is especially clear when it is pointed out. The University had no place to do this and should have kept the picture the same, or found an alternative picture.
I think that this picture is the least unethical because all they did was squeeze the original photo together to fit the format. This should not have offended anyone and the idea of the picture remained the same. Meanwhile in other pictures the way they manipulated the photo totally changed the way people viewed the picture.
