Phobia Project

A. 1. What is a Phobia?

A phobia is a type of anxiety disorder, defined by a persistent fear of an object or situation

B. List and define 5 phobias from The Phobia List: http://phobialist.com

Asthenophobia- Fear of fainting or weakness.
Claustrophobia- Fear of confined spaces.
Acrophobia- Fear of heights.
Eisoptrophobia- Fear of mirrors or of seeing oneself in a mirror.
Caligynephobia- Fear of beautiful women.

C. Brainstorm on your blog possible ideas for your Phobia photo.

  • For Asthenophobia I could show someone struggling to stay strong, and avoid showing weakness
  • For claustrophobia and have someone placed in a small place
  • For Acrophobia I could take a picture on top of a building looking down and someone in the frame looking frightened
  • For Eisoptrophobia I could show someone walking by a mirror and covering their face
  • For Caligynephobia I could show someone trying to hide from a woman

Plan three different shoots with three different phobias. What will you shoot, who will model, how will you show the phobia in the photo, where will you shoot these images? Please detail this out in a paragraph for each phobia (remember you will shoot and turn in three photos).

The three phobia's I plan on shooting are; Eisoptrophobia, Acrophobia & Claustrophobia.

For Eisoptrophobia I could show someone surrounded by mirrors and have there head tucked in between there legs and, their eyes squinted shot, with a sour expression on their face.
For Acrophobia I want to go on top of high place and show a person looking down with a very frightened expression.
For Claustrophobia I would like to have someone in a tunnel in or something possibly on a playground and make sure that they look stuck in there, and also that, being there is the last place they would want to be in that moment.
D. What photographic techniques can you use to help highlight your images? Come up with one idea for each of your three photos you will take.

For Eisoptrophobia I could use balance, leading lines, and ect. to highlight the phobia.

For Acrophobia I could use leading lines, repetition and ect. to highlight the phobia.

For Claustrophobia I could use balance, simplicity, rhythm, repetition and ect. to highlight the phobia.
