Earthquake Story

People impacted by the earthquake experienced an earthquake at 8:12 Monday morning at San Francisco Bay because many earthquake happen here.

These people were effected in different ways by this earthquake.

One auto supply shop was destroyed because of this earthquake and many were hurt, some even dead.

"A building housing McHenry’s Auto Supply at 2342 Plum St. partially collapsed, killing two people and injuring six others," public information officer Jennifer Vu said.

One resident of apartment complexes across the street from this auto supply store described his experience this day.

"I felt a rolling motion that lasted for about 30 seconds, with a big jolt coming in the middle. I was eating my breakfast when the room started rolling. I dove under the table just as I heard an explosion outside and a chunk of cement flew through my kitchen window. That’s when the screaming start across the street,” resident Mike beamer said.

The earthquake was very large and alarming.

"The epicenter of the earthquake, which had a magnitude of 6.4 on the Richter scale," a scientist from the U.S. Geological Survey in Menlo Park Penny Gertz said.

Many people helped attend this horrible building collapse.

"Twenty-one fire personnel, 12 police and five American Red Cross workers responded to the building collapse, with some arriving within four minutes of the quake," public information officer Vu said.

Six people were injured. but three of those were injured much more than the others.

"Three of the six people injured were hurt seriously enough to require hospitalization and were transported to Hayward General Hospital," public information officer Vu said.

Even though the earthquake took place in San Francisco, California, many others felt this event happen as well.

"People as far south as Los Angeles and as far north as Redding felt the quake," scientist from U.S. Geological Survey in Menlo Park Gertz said.
