Huntington Story

Janice Jones was shot in the leg at 10 p.m. at her motor homes because her dog knocked it off of the seat.

Her motor home was in Barstow, California. The gun fell, hit the floor, and shot.

"Jones' dog knocked her 9 mm handgun off the seat," highway patrol Tammy Rye said.

Jones was shot in the leg. Her car was also hit.

"The weapon discharged when it hit the floor, and the bullet passed through Jones' leg and through the side of the vehicle," highway patrol Rye said.

Although the bullet still hit the car, it could have been much more of a disaster.

"It could have been worse. The bullet hit two inches from the gas tank," highway patrol Rye said.

Jones was brought to a hospital then transferred to another hospital.

"Jones was transported to Huntington Beach Hospital via ambulance and later was transported to Irvine Medical Center," highway patrol Rye said.

Jones did not give the hospital any information about him.

"Jones was treated at the hospital but gave no additional information," a spokesperson for Huntington Beach Hospital Jim Washington said.

Jones' dog was not in as good of shape as they wished for him to be in.

"The dog seemed to be malnourished, and had fresh cigarette burns on its forehead," animal control officer Janet Ngo said.

Jones would be filed for animal abuse and would be charged for the gun accident.

"Jones doesn't have a permit for the gun," highway patrol Rye said.
